The center had no fines or penalties reported for the first quarter of 2026.
At that time, Jefferson County, Florida, had just one for-profit nursing home.
Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau indicate the older adult population in the United States is continuing to rise while younger age groups are experiencing declines. From 2020 to 2024, the number of Americans age 65 and older increased by 13%, and the population under 18 decreased by 1.7%. The nation’s older population has expanded significantly over the past century, from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.
A 2021 analysis found that about half of seniors—approximately 28 million people—may need long-term services and supports. It further estimates that more than a third could ultimately require care in a nursing home.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an organization focused on insurance education. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
