Florida A&M University’s women’s basketball team was defeated by Grambling State University 79-65 in an away game on Saturday. Despite the loss, Florida A&M showed effective ball movement, recording 14 assists on 23 made field goals.
Three players from Florida A&M scored in double digits. Miya Giles-Jones led with 19 points, while Shaniyah McCarthy added 16 points and eight rebounds. Breazia Robinson contributed 10 points.
The team excelled in offensive rebounding, collecting 15 boards that resulted in 11 second-chance points. Giles-Jones was notable for her four offensive rebounds. On defense, Florida A&M forced Grambling into 18 turnovers, converting those opportunities into 10 points. Tahnyjia Purifoy led the team with two steals.
In the first quarter, Florida A&M overcame a three-point deficit with a late run and finished the period ahead by one point. The team scored half of its first-quarter points in the paint. However, Grambling took control in the second quarter, leading by five at halftime.
After halftime, Florida A&M reduced the margin to three points by the end of the third quarter, continuing to find success near the basket. In the final quarter, Grambling maintained its lead and secured a 14-point victory. Florida A&M managed three fast break points during this period.
