Florida A&M men’s basketball defeats Alcorn State behind strong defense

The Florida A&M men’s basketball team secured a 66-58 victory over Alcorn State on Saturday in Tallahassee, improving their season record to 8-9 and their conference mark to 5-1. The Rattlers limited Alcorn State to just 20 percent shooting from three-point range, with the Braves making only three of their 15 attempts from beyond the arc.

Miles Ndalama led Florida A&M with 17 points, three steals, and three blocks. Jaquan Sanders contributed 13 points and seven assists, while Antonio Baker came off the bench to add 11 points and two blocks. Tyler Shirley led the team in rebounding with six boards.

Florida A&M outrebounded Alcorn State by a margin of 32-26. On defense, the Rattlers forced 17 turnovers and registered seven blocks as a team. “The Rattlers put on a passing clinic, recording an assist on 72 percent of made baskets.” The team’s defensive efforts also held Alcorn State to five second-chance points despite eight offensive rebounds.

After trailing early in the first half, Florida A&M tied the game at 18 following a five-point run but went into halftime down by one point at 30-29. In the second half, Alcorn State built a seven-point lead before Florida A&M responded with a decisive 10-0 run that included a key three-pointer from Sanders. The Rattlers then maintained control for the remainder of the contest.

Florida A&M scored more than half its second-half points in the paint (20 out of their total) as they closed out another conference win at home.
