Florida A&M University’s women’s basketball team was defeated by Alcorn State 62-50 in an away game on Thursday. Despite holding Alcorn State to just 20 percent shooting from three-point range, the Rattlers were unable to secure a win.
Breazia Robinson led Florida A&M with a double-double, scoring 13 points and collecting 11 rebounds. Cornelia Ellington contributed 11 points and five assists, while Camille Jackson added 10 points and two steals off the bench.
The Rattlers out-rebounded Alcorn State 40-39, with Robinson leading in rebounds. Florida A&M also grabbed 15 offensive rebounds, converting them into 14 second-chance points. Defensively, the team recorded five blocks, with Robinson responsible for three of them.
The game started evenly, with both teams tied at 10 early in the first quarter. Florida A&M then went on a short run to take a lead but finished the quarter ahead by only four points. By halftime, Alcorn State had overtaken Florida A&M and led by three.
Alcorn State extended its lead after halftime, leaving Florida A&M trailing by five at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Alcorn State built up a double-digit advantage before Florida A&M responded with a late run to narrow the gap to six points with under two minutes remaining. However, Alcorn State maintained control and secured the victory.
Florida A&M held Alcorn State to just over 37 percent shooting from the field and limited their perimeter success but could not convert defensive efforts into a win. The Rattlers remain at .500 in conference play following this result.
