Florida State University’s women’s lacrosse team lost 13-7 to No. 21 Army at the Atlanta Lacrosse Invitational, held at B.T. Harvey Stadium at Morehouse College on Saturday evening. The Seminoles’ record now stands at 2-3, while Army improves to 3-1.
Army started strong with a 4-0 lead in the first quarter. Florida State’s Meg Kenny assisted Amelia Brite for the team’s first goal, but Army responded with four more goals, ending the quarter ahead 8-1.
The second quarter began with another goal from Army. A foul on Kenny resulted in a free position shot, which she converted for Florida State’s second goal. Army added two more goals before halftime, leading 11-2 at the break.
In the third quarter, Brynn Perkins scored early for Florida State. Army answered with one of their two goals in that period, maintaining a significant advantage. Kenny capitalized on another free position shot for her second goal, and senior attacker Lola Mancuso scored shortly after on another free position attempt. At the end of three quarters, Army led 13-5.
A yellow card against Army in the fourth quarter gave Florida State a man-up opportunity, and Summer Harrell scored on a free position attempt. Later in the quarter, Kenny completed her hat trick by scoring her third free position shot of the game with just over four minutes remaining.
Florida State outscored Army 5-2 in the second half and kept them scoreless during the fourth quarter.
“Kenny’s hat trick marks her third multi-goal game of the season and upped her goal total to 10 tying Mancuso for the Seminole lead.”
“Mancuso extended her point streak to 20 games with her 10th goal of the season.”
Sophomore goalkeeper Julia Ward played 44 minutes for Florida State and achieved a career-high four saves.
