Florida State University’s softball team, ranked No. 10 nationally, secured a 14-0 victory over Florida A&M University on Wednesday evening at JoAnne Graf Field. The game ended after five innings due to the run rule.
Starting pitcher Ashtyn Danley allowed just one hit and struck out six batters in three innings to earn the win. Relief pitchers Marlee Gaskell and Makenna Reid combined for five more strikeouts and did not allow any runs.
Offensively, the Seminoles began scoring early when Marin Heller drew a leadoff walk, followed by Jaysoni Beachum’s double to put Florida State ahead. Additional runs were scored through a combination of hits and walks, including contributions from Makenna Sturgis and Kennedy Harp.
The second inning saw the Seminoles extend their lead with back-to-back RBI singles from Beachum and Danley. Harp added an RBI double, while Shelby McKenzie and Hayley Griggs also contributed with RBI singles.
In the fourth inning, Florida State rallied for six two-out runs, highlighted by a triple from Danley that drove in two more runs. Errors by Florida A&M allowed additional runs to score.
According to the university, “FSU’s 14 runs was a season high.” The team also noted that “FSU’s 14-run was the largest win over FAMU since an 18-0 victory in 2008.” The Seminoles drew eight walks during the game, marking another season best.
The victory extended several streaks for Florida State: “FSU has won 43 consecutive regular season games against unranked non-conference opponents dating back to March 8, 2024,” as well as “32 consecutive games against FAMU dating back to 2006.” The all-time record between the teams now stands at 121-7 in favor of Florida State.
Individual performances included Jaysoni Beachum achieving her fifth multi-RBI game of the season. Makenna Sturgis has collected eight hits in her last thirteen at bats. Anna Hinde walked in the first inning and has reached base in fourteen out of seventeen games this season. Ashtyn Danley tied her career high with three RBIs during this game.
Florida State is scheduled to play a doubleheader against FGCU tomorrow beginning at 3 p.m., which will be broadcast on ACCNX.
