Zoryana Hughes and Jordan Douglas of Florida A&M University softball were recognized on Apr. 7 with Southwestern Athletic Conference weekly awards following a strong series against Alabama A&M in Tallahassee, Florida.

The conference named Hughes as Pitcher of the Week and Douglas as Hitter of the Week after the Rattlers outscored the Bulldogs 23-7 over three games. These performances played a key role in helping Florida A&M secure a sweep in their weekend matchup.

Hughes delivered a standout performance Thursday night by throwing a complete-game no-hitter, retiring all 22 batters she faced and striking out eight. She used just 104 pitches across seven innings, allowing no hits or runs, improving her season record to 9-3. In Saturday’s series finale, Hughes returned in relief to pitch another spotless outing, retiring all seven batters over 2.1 innings for her second save of the season.

Douglas contributed significantly on offense throughout the series. She began with a grand slam during Game 1’s first inning and added another solo home run later that game, totaling five runs batted in for the opener. On Saturday afternoon, she hit her third home run of the weekend—a two-run shot—helping secure another win for Florida A&M. Over three games, Douglas went three-for-six at bat with three home runs and seven RBI.

The recognition from SWAC highlights both players’ impact on their team’s success during this pivotal conference matchup.
