On Tuesday, April 1, former Leon High School standout Will Newell’s current college team, the Dayton Flyers, won 6-4 in their NCAA Division I baseball game against the Akron Zips.
The game took place at Woerner Field. This was their second matchup against the Zips this season.
The Flyers’ next game is scheduled for Friday, April 4 at 3 p.m. at Earl Lorden Field against UMass Minutemen.
In January 2025, Mecklenburg County Magistrate Teresa Stokes signed the release of DeCarlos Brown Jr., a repeat arrestee later accused of fatally stabbing Iryna Zarutska on Charlotte’s light-rail.
Mecklenburg County received $3.3 million from a Chicago-based political foundation after leaders agreed to “reduce the use of incarceration” for repeat criminals like DeCarlos Brown, Jr.
