Florida State University announced on Apr. 8 that seven of its football players have been named to the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society, marking a new school record.
The recognition highlights academic achievement among student-athletes, with honorees required to maintain at least a 3.2 undergraduate GPA and be starters or contributors during the previous season. The announcement underscores Florida State’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence in athletics.
First-team Academic All-American Duce Robinson was among those honored, along with linebacker AJ Cottrill, quarterback Michael Grant, defensive back Donny Hiebert, and offensive lineman Luke Petitbon—all first-time recipients. Offensive lineman Jacob Rizy earned the distinction for a second consecutive year. Transfer quarterback Ashton Daniels was also recognized for his academic success as a Stanford graduate who played last season at Auburn.
To qualify for the NFF Hampshire Honor Society, nominees must either be graduating seniors who completed their final year of eligibility in 2025 or graduated players/graduate transfers who competed in the 2025 season and have already earned a bachelor’s degree—even if they have remaining eligibility. Additional requirements include maintaining at least a 3.2 GPA and being significant contributors during the season.
Robinson caught 56 passes for 1,081 yards and six touchdowns as a junior in 2025, ranking ninth nationally in receiving yards during the regular season. Petitbon started all twelve games at center and joined Robinson on the All-Atlantic Coast Conference first team while earning honorable mention All-American honors. Both Petitbon and Rizy were key parts of an offense that led the conference in total and rushing offense last year.
Cottrill recorded career highs with fifteen tackles over twelve games; Hiebert contributed three tackles before an injury ended his season; Grant made his debut with a completion against East Texas A&M; Daniels has thrown for nearly five thousand passing yards over his collegiate career after graduating from Stanford.
Florida State has placed at least five players on this honor society list for three consecutive seasons and multiple honorees each of the past five years.
