R. Jai Gillum is the featured honoree for March 2022 in the Cherry Hall Alexander African-American History Month Calendar

Tallahassee Community College issued the following announcement on Feb. 4.

R. Jai Gillum is the featured honoree for March 2022 in the Cherry Hall Alexander African-American History Month Calendar. She is the Director of the Florida Dental Association (FDA) Foundation.

The Montgomery, AL, native has lived in Tallahassee for 20 years. She earned an undergraduate degree in Biology and a Master of Public Health from Florida A&M University. In 2004, R. Jai was selected for the inaugural class of the Florida Gubernatorial Fellows Program. Assigned to work in the Office of the Secretary at the Florida Department of Health, she served on the State Oral Health Improvement Plan for Disadvantaged Persons Workgroup and helped to develop strategies comprehensive oral care in Florida. Today, R. Jai is responsible for the implementation and management of the Florida Dental Association’s charitable programs, including the Florida Mission of Mercy, which serves the underserved and uninsured in Florida.

Her career has included roles United Way of the Big Bend, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend. Her extensive volunteer work has included Florida Commission on the Status of Women, Tallahassee/Leon County Commission on the Status of Women & Girls, Leadership Tallahassee Class 25, Leadership Tallahassee Board of Governors, National Selective Service System (Local Board Member), Florida Healthy Kids Corporation Ad Hoc Board Member, and the Junior League of Tallahassee Board of Directors. R. Jai currently serves on the Tallahassee Community College Foundation Board and is a member of Capital Women’s Network; The Links, Incorporated; Tallahassee Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the Tallahassee Chapter of Jack & Jill of America, Inc. R. Jai is married to Andrew Gillum, and they have three children – 7-year-old twins, Jackson and Caroline, and 4-year-old Davis.
