Early American Vaseline/Uranium Glass Exhibit @ Northeast Branch Library on November 26, 2022

Presented by Bill Donalson, this exhibit highlights a collection of various Vaseline/Uranium glass items, as well as Victorian knife rests and salt cellars and spoons.

On display from November 22 - December 7 at the Northeast Branch Library display cases.About Vaseline/Uranium glass:Vaseline/Uranium glass was manufactured by many companies from late 1800s through the depression years of the 20th century. It was popular because it was at that time relatively inexpensive and could be used for casual dining and refrigeration storage. Complete sets were available for dining and for ornamentation, as were pieces for curio collectors. Vaseline glass is usually sold at antiques shops or at estate liquidations sales. Values have declined in the past ten years; however, complete sets can be expensive. Values are not widely known and depend entirely on where they are found. At one time Vaseline/uranium glass was thought to leech; however, the uranium is completely sealed in the glass in the manufacturing process.
