On Saturday, Dec. 2, the City of Tallahassee’s documentary titled “A Veteran’s Journey: Honor Flight Tallahassee” was honored at the 47th annual Suncoast Regional Emmy Awards.

The Suncoast Regional Emmy Awards recognizes the best and brightest of television and media professionals. Earning this award reflects the profound impact of the City Communications Department’s work in documenting Honor Flight Tallahassee. This marks the third time a City production has been recognized with an Emmy.

Since 2013, Honor Flight Tallahassee has been transporting veterans of WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War each year to Washington, D.C., to visit military monuments raised in their honor.

In “A Veteran’s Journey” viewers travel along with the 2022 Honor Flight delegates as they visited Arlington National Cemetery, war memorials and more. Viewers also see that for Johnny Linton, a Vietnam veteran, the trip is a journey of the heart that helps him move past the trauma and anguish of his wartime service.

The documentary film was produced by WCOT Station Manager, Tom Bronakoski, with filming and editing assistance from other members of the Communications Department. Staff traveled alongside participants to capture their journey and honor the impactful stories of local veterans.

“A Veteran’s Journey: Honor Flight Tallahassee” was released on Veterans Day 2022 and can be viewed on the City’s YouTube channel.
