Yesterday, Speaker Mike Johnson joined Congressman Neal Dunn and Congresswoman Kat Cammack to survey the damage caused by Hurricane Helene in North Florida. The officials visited Steinhatchee and conducted aerial surveys of agricultural losses in Lafayette County. They concluded their visit with an agriculture roundtable at the University Air Center.
During the day, they met with local leaders, federal officials, and community members to assess the damage and discuss recovery efforts. Speaker Johnson addressed the media after visiting Steinhatchee, while Reps. Dunn and Cammack released statements about their observations.
Congressman Neal Dunn commented on the resilience of North Florida communities: "North Florida is tough, and the resilience of our communities in the wake of Hurricane Helene continues to inspire." He emphasized his commitment to supporting recovery efforts alongside Speaker Johnson.
Speaker Johnson praised the collective response: “I think this has been an extraordinary effort by Florida, the state and local officials... It would inspire the entire country to see how they’re really banded together." He also highlighted similar challenges faced by other states affected by recent storms.
Rep. Cammack expressed gratitude for Speaker Johnson's visit: "Seeing the damage and destruction from Hurricane Helene firsthand... was critical." She noted that some residents have not yet received disaster assistance applied for after previous hurricanes.
The visit underscored ongoing recovery efforts and commitments from federal and local authorities to support North Florida communities post-Hurricane Helene.
