Hurricane Ida Safety Tips

City of Quincy issued the following annoucement on Aug. 29.

  • Do not park vehicles along the street to prevent water from flowing directly to the storm drain.
  • Place all trash cans on your property to prevent the trash cans from falling into the roadway, slowing the water flow.
  • Have water available; fill the bathtub to flush the toilet if water and sewer services are  lost.
  • After the hurricane, don’t go out sightseeing. There may be down power lines and debris.
  • Listen to the weather channel and authorities’ direction to keep you safe before, during, and after the hurricane.
  • Stay away from windows and glass doors.
  • Take refuge in a safe room – a small, interior room on the lowest level
  • Do not drive or wade into flooding areas.
  • Parks and Recreation is available if you need a place to stay during the hurricane.
  • Report any power outages to utilities.
  • Report hazards to the local authorities. Call the police at (850) 627-7111
