City of Tallahassee issued the following announcement on Feb. 15.
The amazingly popular Capital City Senior Games are coming back March 2-15. Presented by the City of Tallahassee, the games help keep Tallahassee's senior population active and healthy. Participants of all skill levels are encouraged to get involved.
Adults age 50+ can register now online at Talgov.com/SeniorGames or by phone at 850-891-3875.
Registration for the Capital City Senior Games begins at $15 for one event and includes a t-shirt. Each additional event is $3, and venue fees apply for some events (check registration form). Those who register for three or more sports (not events) will receive a Senior Games duffel bag. Registration ends two days prior to each competition's event date. For dates, times and locations of each competition, visit Talgov.com/SeniorGames.
The games feature competitions designed for all fitness levels, including archery, bag toss, basketball, bowling, cycling, golf, horseshoes, pickleball, racquetball, swimming, table tennis and track and field. Pickleball offers opportunities to compete in singles, doubles and mixed doubles; tennis offers doubles and mixed doubles competitions. Non-competitive events are water aerobics and a one-mile fun walk.
The state of COVID-19 will be monitored and evaluated. Most events will be held outdoors; indoor competitions and activities will be held in accordance with CDC protocols.
Just like the Olympics, the Capital City Senior Games begin with a torch run and end with an awards ceremony. The Torch Run kicks things off on Wednesday, March 2, at 6 p.m., at Cascades Park. The Celebration of Athletes is on Tuesday, March 15, at 5:30 p.m., at Cascades Park.
