Leon County Government is proud to announce the addition of two parks, Pimlico Park and Man-O’-War Park. Added through an innovative private-public agreement, the grounds include nearly 18 acres of new County park space for all residents to enjoy.
“Leon County has long been a great place to enjoy the outdoors, and with both Pimlico and Man-O’-War Parks, the County adds even more outdoor offerings for our community,” said Leon County Commission Chairman Bill Proctor.
After working with the Killearn Acres neighborhood, the County will now maintain Pimlico Park, located at 4811 Pimlico Drive, and Man-O’-War Park, located at 6568 Man-O’-War Trail. This private-public agreement directly aligns with the County’s goal of promoting livability, health and sense of community by supporting strong neighborhoods, enhancing mobility and creating public spaces for people of all ages.
“I’m excited that Man-O’-War and Pimlico Parks have officially been transferred to Leon County and added to our Parks and Recreation inventory,” said Leon County District 4 Commissioner Brian Welch. “This furthers the County’s commitment of adding more parks and recreational facilities to the Northeast.”
To ensure that the parks are up to the highest standards for residents, the County will make improvements to the parks, such as removing overgrowth and filling hazardous holes, in the coming weeks. Both parks will also receive new signage, fencing, doggie bag station, trash cans, and park benches. Improvements for both parks are expected to complete by this fall.
“Through this innovative public-private agreement, the County is able to open not one, but two new parks for all to enjoy,” said Leon County Administrator Vincent S. Long. “Increasing park offerings and active recreation countywide remains one of our highest priorities, and our County Parks team has done a great job bringing these locations up to our highest standards.”
To increase recreational offerings, the County will also install a new playground structure at Pimlico Park and a new swing set structure at Man-O’-War Park that is expected to be complete by this fall.
“We’re thrilled to have the County come in and manage these parks for our whole community,” said Mark Uanimo, area resident. “We know the County can provide the resources that the parks need and deserve, and they will be a space our neighbors and community continue to enjoy for years to come.”
