September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. We wanted to take a moment to remind our community that it’s okay to talk about suicide.
While it’s important to have these conversations year-round, this month provides a dedicated time to come together as a community with a unified message: you are not alone and there are resources available to help those affected by suicide and those who are having suicidal thoughts.
The truth is, we can all benefit from honest conversations about mental health conditions, so we sat down with Sergeant Susan Burton to talk about this complicated topic after she was able to rescue a suicidal person on the ledge of a parking garage in Tallahassee. Body camera footage from the incident is used in this video and viewer discretion is advised.
Please know 988 is now available nationwide as the new number to contact for mental health, substance use, and suicide crises. In times of emergency, call 911.
