The FAMU Rattler Battalion alumni have surpassed their initial goal of raising $25,000 for the Te-Andre Brown Endowed Scholarship Fund.

They attended the game as part of veterans and Armed Services recognition day at Bragg Memorial Stadium during the final home game against Southern University. The Rattler Battalion is the name for the FAMU Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Program.

Cadet Te-Andre Brown died in 2020.

“To have Cadet Te-Andre Brown’s mother and sister present for his endowed scholarship presentation was special. A major thank you to all donors who showed excellence with caring by contributing to the Cadet Te-Andre Brown Endowed Scholarship,” said Lt. Col. (Retired) Ricardo Kinsey, a member of the Rattler Battalion Alumni Association and a major financial supporter of student scholarships. “This endowed scholarship will ensure his legacy lives on forever and will have a major impact on a cadet’s college education at FAMU.”

Born in Jamaica, Brown was a senior business administration student at FAMU. While on campus, he joined many organizations such as Army ROTC, National Society of Pershing Rifles, the Beta Nu Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and Omega Xi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business fraternity.

On March 15, 2020, Brown died while trying to rescue another swimmer in distress. He was decribed as a  brave and selfless young man who would do anything to make sure that the well-being of others was put before his own.”
