On 03/09/2023 a Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Deputy assigned to the Criminal Interdiction Unit was on patrol in the area of FM-1960, Dayton, Liberty County, Texas when he observed a red in color, Dodge pickup violate a Texas Traffic Law.  A traffic stop was made in the area of 6053 FM-1960.  The LCSO deputy approached the vehicle on the passenger side and identified the driver as Henry Lloyd Gates, Jr., W/M, DOB: 03/26/1972.  The passenger was identified as Denis Jodie Brown, Jr., W/M, DOB: 05/13/1964.  Gates behavior became very erratic, and he appeared to become extremely nervous.  Records showed that Gates had a criminal record for distributing methamphetamine.  He is currently on parole.  Gates denied permission to search the vehicle.  A Liberty County Sheriff’s Office K9 was called.  The K9 made a positive alert on the vehicle.

The deputy conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle and located multiple plastic bags containing a white crystal-like substance that was suspected to be methamphetamine.  The total weight of the illegal substance was around 11 ounces. Gates and Brown were placed in custody.  They were transported to the Liberty County Jail without incident.  They were both charged with Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance - * Felony.

(Information is taken from the deputy’s report.  The defendants are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty.)

Thank you,

Bobby Rader - Sheriff
