From March 17, 2023 Post.
On Monday, March 13, 2023, a Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Unit was working in the area of US-90 and FM-1413 in Dayton, Liberty County, Texas. A red color Ford passenger car was observed violating several Texas Traffic Code laws. The deputy checked the registration, and the return came back to a green color, Kia passenger vehicle. A traffic stop was initiated. The driver was identified as Andrew James Fontenot, W/M, DOB: 12-22-2000 from Crosby, Texas. Because the vehicle displayed a fictitious registration the driver was detained to make sure that the vehicle was not stolen. Fontenot was arrested for displaying the fictitious registration. When the vehicle was inventoried, the deputy located a silver revolver and a green and black “Glock” style handgun with a red switch attached to the rear of the handgun. The deputy knew from prior training that the switch made the handgun fully automatic.
Fontenot was also charged with Possession of a Prohibited Weapon – Third Degree Felony.
Fontenot was transported to the Liberty County Jail without incident.
(Information is taken from the deputy’s report. The defendant is presumed to be innocent until proven guilty.)
Thank you,
Bobby Rader – Sheriff
